There will be two phases, starting with the engineered housing for employees right through to beehive allotments and a Honeybee research centre.
The Snowdown Park Project
Building the houses for the site’s employees to facilitate that all important work-life balance. Underpinning the housing development will be a foul and surface water treatment system, where possible for use in a grey water scheme through an underground storage space.
The natural filtering effects of reed beds will be a feature of the design with the potential for harvesting any surplus reeds for practical use elsewhere on the site.
The pub and restaurants with stunning views to the main site, will appear in Phase One to kick-start the visitors’ interest in the site; buildings 1 or 2 would work for this, as they are close to the train station.
Buildings 7 or 8 would be developed first for Bee Equipment’s occupation on the ground floor and part of the 1st floor. Some of the smaller units to the front of the site, i.e. buildings 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 may be developed in this phase.
Other features of Phase One will be the arrival of up to 40 honeybee hive styled eco-lodges; 20 for 2 persons and 20 for 4 persons. One of the three linked lakes will also be created.
Phase Two focuses on the commercial opportunities, with aspirations for Snowdown Park to encourage not only the local residents, entrepreneurs and crafts-people, but visitors from across Europe and beyond.
Together with an industry first – a dedicated Honeybee Research Centre with strong links to higher education, followed by prestigious conference and classroom facilities.
Phase Two completes the honeybee hive inspired eco-lodge development, nestling between the colliery’s many acres of unspoilt landscape. A priority with the eco-lodge placement is not to disrupt the existing wilderness, but to co-exist with the woodland areas.
A green gym, pollinator-friendly plant nursery and bee-hive allotments will compliment and unite the space.
Finally, an imaginative event and function space will provide endless opportunities for groups and organisations to flourish. We hope to attract a diverse range of users, who will return time after time for the fabulous facilities, customer service and peace and tranquillity that will be Snowdown Park - phase two is going to be busy!
